Naren Visits a Warship
When Naren (Swami Vivekananda) was about 10 years old, a warship arrived at the port of Kolkata. Eager to see the ship, Naren prepared a permission request form and hoped to have it signed by the officer in charge, granting him access to explore the ship.
However, there was a small problem: the officer was inside the ship, and the security guard at the entrance refused to let Naren through. But Naren was determined. He searched for a back entrance and, by chance, discovered a set of stairs leading to the upper deck. He climbed up, and as he pulled back the curtains, he found himself face-to-face with the officer. Naren handed the form to the officer, who signed it without question.
Naren spent the rest of the day exploring the ship, thoroughly enjoying his time. When it was time to leave, he exited through the same gate where he had originally been denied entry. The gatekeeper was stunned to see Naren coming out of the ship.
“How did you get inside?” the gatekeeper asked, clearly astonished.
“Oh, I’m a magician,” Naren replied with a mischievous laugh, and walked home.
