What Is Love? — Osho's Words on True Love

Osho with disciples

Love is not a relationship. Love is a state of being; it has nothing to do with anybody else. One is not 'in love' — one is love. And when one is love, one is in love — naturally. One cannot help being in love. [1]

Love is like the fragrance of the flower.
It does not ask for anything.
It simply gives.
It does not demand anything back…
When love is like the fragrance… it is divine.
You are just love.
It falls on everyone. [2]

When the flower blooms, fragrance spreads. When you attain to your innermost being, love spreads.

Love is simply your nature. Love is just the fragrance of your being.

Love spreads all around just the way the sun rises, and it showers its light, its rays, to all the trees without any discrimination… The sunlight showers over the whole planet without any discrimination [3]

Love is like a river, flowing, unending. Love knows no full stop; the honeymoon begins but never ends. It is not like a novel that starts at a certain point and ends at a certain point. It is an ongoing phenomenon. Lovers end, love continues—it is a continuum. It is a verb, not a noun. [4]

Love should be like breathing. It should be just a quality in you – wherever you are, with whomsoever you are, or even if you are alone, love goes on overflowing from you. It is not a question of being in love with someone – it is a question of being love. [5]

It does not matter who comes close to you, the sinner or the saint.
Whosoever comes close to you starts feeling the vibe of love, is rejoiced.
Love is unconditional giving. But only those who are capable of giving shall have.

When a person is full of love, love radiates all around him just as fragrance radiates from a flower, just as light radiates from a lamp. It is not addressed to anyone, it is unaddressed. And that is the beauty of it, the freedom of it. You are simply loving.
